“Haunted by Light” by Arabella Dorman in support of the “Save the Valletta Skyline” Appeal

Arabella Dorman, internationally renowned war atist and one of Britain’s leading portrait painters, gave an outstanding and very moving talk about her exploration of the human face of conflict in the Middle East to a spell bound audience at the National Liberal Club in London’s Whitehall on 28th January.  Using her own paintings and sketches she took us on a journey from Iraq to Afghanistan, Lebanon, Gaza and most recently Syria, in her search for light in the darkest corners of existence.

Said Arabella – who is a granddaughter of Sir Maurice Dorman, the last British Governor and first Governor General of Malta from 1962 to 1971  “What I try to paint is the experience of the individual, the poignancy behind the frontline and the humbling truth behind the headlines”.

She was introduced by Trevor Peel, Chairman of the NLC Commonwealth Forum, who sponsored this event in support of the ‘Save the Valletta Skyline Appeal’ for the Restoration of of St Paul’s Anglican Cathedral in Malta.  And she was thanked by Howard Pearce, former British High Commissioner to Malta 1999 to 2002.
