Works to be carried out at St Paul’s Anglican pro-Cathedral 23rd to 27th February 2019
For urgent health and safety reasons, emergency works will be carried out on the 200-foot tower and spire at St Paul’s Anglican pro-Cathedral in Valletta. The works are aimed at rendering the site safe by installing a debris containment netting at the top portion of the bell-tower. This will involve four specialised workers abseiling from the spire down the tower to install strapping and netting to the deteriorated areas of the tower as stones have recently detached from the tower.
For the safety of the workers and of the road users, the ring road around Valletta will not be accessible from TàLiesse roundabout until the junction between Triq Marsamxett and Triq San Mark on the following dates and times:
Saturday 23 February 2019 from 1500hrs onwards
Sunday 24 February 2019 from 0700hrs onwards
Monday 25 February from 1500hrs onwards
Tuesday 26 February from 1500hrs onwards
Wednesday 27 February from 1500hrs onwards
Vehicular traffic flow (routes and diversions)
•Vehicular Traffic coming from Floriana onto Marsamxett Road will be diverted onto St. Mark Street onto Old Bakery Street – traffic can then proceed normally within Valletta.
•Vehicular Traffic coming from Lascaris Wharf will be diverted back at Ta’ Liesse Roundabout back toLascarisWharf and onto Crucifix Hill,on to St. Francis Street,on to War Memorial Roundabout, on to Girolamo Cassar Road and finally onto St. Paul’s Street - traffic can then proceed normally within Valletta.
•Vehicular Traffic coming from St. Anne Road onto Girolamo Cassar Road will not be affected.
•Vehicular Traffic exiting from Old Bakery Street will be diverted towards St. Elmo on to Mediterranean Street.
•Vehicular Traffic Exiting from Old Bakery Towards Mattia Preti Square and St. Lucy Street will be diverted towards Great Siege Road.
•Vehicular Traffic Exiting from Republic Street will be diverted towards Mediterranean Street.
We urge drivers to use alternative routes and follow instructions by Police Enforcement Officers on site. The inevitable inconvenience caused to people living in the vicinity of the cathedral, and to drivers and pedestrians using the area, is deeply regretted.
